How many practices does each team get?
As part of the registration fee, each team receives two practice sessions during the designated training period. Additional practices may be available for an additional cost, call Tyler Smith at (902) 425-5450 ext. 344, or e-mail, for more details.

Why practice?
Team practices are designed for all participants to become familiar with some of the skills involved with dragon boat racing and make your team's experience more enjoyable. The goal of the Festival is for participants to have a good time with their teammates and to showcase the values and benefits that sport can provide.

How long is each practice session?
Each practice session is 60 minutes long.

What time do I need to arrive for my practice session?

You should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your team's practice time.

Where are practice sessions held?
All practice sessions take place at Graham's Grove in Dartmouth (right across from the Braemar Superstore).

How do we book a practice session?
As we get closer to the Festival, team captains will have the opportunity to sign-up their team for practices via an online sign-up page.
Where can I park?
There is a parking lot right at Graham's Grove. Space is limited, so please arrive early and carpool when possible.

Will food and refreshments be available on-site?
Food and refreshments will not be available on-site during practice sessions.

What should I wear and bring?
You should wear clothing that does not constrict your movement. Sweat pants, sweat shirts, t-shirts, and shorts are examples of suitable clothing. Bear in mind that practices take place in the evenings. If it is cool or windy, a nylon wind breaker (top and bottoms) would be useful. You are likely to get a bit wet, so a towel and change of clothes are a good addition to your kit bag. For footwear it is recommended that you wear watershoes, Crocs or another form of footwear that you do not mind getting wet.

Are there changing facilities on-site?
There are both male and female changing facilities on-site. Please ask a coach or volunteer if you are having trouble locating these facilities.

Do we need our own coach?
No, a qualified coach is supplied to each team by the Festival organizers. Each coach has a paddling background and knowledge about the intricacies of training a dragon boat team for fun and success.

What do we do once we have arrived at Graham's Grove?
You should gather as a team, warm-up, and begin to perform stretching exercises while you await the arrival of your coach. It is suggested that one person lead the stretching exercises while the others follow his / her lead.

What safety precautions are in place?

All participants must wear a personal flotation device and a safety boat is always close by.

What is the responsibility of our captain?

It is your captain's responsibility to ensure that practice times are booked, all team members are aware of the practice session times and dates, and to assemble the team at the beginning of practice.

Can we get extra practice sessions?
Additional practices may be available for an additional cost. Please call Tyler Smith at (902) 425-5450 ext.344, or e-mail for more information.
